Brandon Detvongsa

Job Title


Brandon Detvongsa is a passionate and dedicated civic and community engagement professional committed to uplifting the Lao American community. Since 2023, he has been an integral part of the Lao Assistance Center of Minnesota (LACM), where his work reflects a deep sense of service, a willingness to go the extra mile, and a genuine enjoyment of making a difference in people’s lives. 

At LACM, Brandon has played a key role in civic and community engagement efforts, ensuring that the voices of the Lao community are heard in major development projects like the Blue Line Expansion. His work with the Green Partners Environmental Program has been instrumental in training community ambassadors in the 3 R’s—Recycling, Reduction, and Reuse—promoting sustainable practices within the community. Additionally, he has actively contributed to engagement efforts surrounding the Olson Memorial Highway redevelopment, advocating for community-centered solutions. 

Brandon’s dedication extends to direct service, where he has assisted countless Lao community members with Medicare enrollments, helping them navigate complex healthcare systems. His commitment to public health is further demonstrated through his role on LACM’s Long COVID team, where he leads small group sessions, outreach efforts, and education campaigns as part of a broader community health assessment. He approaches this work with compassion and persistence, ensuring that even the most vulnerable members of the community receive the support they need. 

Beyond his work at LACM, Brandon has built a strong foundation of service through past experiences. At Boston Scientific, he improved operational efficiency by managing inventory and streamlining equipment logistics. During his internship with the Brooklyn Center Fire Department, he assisted on emergency calls, gaining valuable experience in public safety and crisis response. His time as a Teacher’s Assistant at Park Center Senior High further demonstrated his dedication to education and mentorship, helping students achieve academic success. 

Brandon holds a Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Religious Studies from the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities, graduating with high honors. His strong academic background, combined with his unwavering dedication to community service and his willingness to go above and beyond, makes him a valuable advocate for equity, sustainability, and public health in the Lao community.
