The Lao Assistance Center of Minnesota (LACM) Volunteer Program contributes short-term, culturally appropriate assistance for traditional events in the community, including funerals, religious ceremonies, weddings, and family conflict resolution. In addition, Lao college students volunteer as tutors and chaperones for field trips with younger students.
LACM continues to implement a community-wide volunteer campaign through public relations activities and active volunteer recruitment in order to fill the gaps to assist clients in after-hours emergency situations. This campaign helps community members to understand what volunteering is in the U.S., why volunteering is important, and what skills are needed in the community.
